The Anaheim Ducks exited the 2026 Stanley Cup Playoffs after losing to the Vegas Golden Knights in the Western Conference second round. Following their elimination, the Ducks have been dealt a major injury blow in the form of right wing Troy Terry.

As per the latest report published on the NHL website, Terry will undergo surgery to help repair a chronic impingement in his hip. With that, the status of the Denver, Colorado, native at the start of the 2026-27 season with the Ducks is yet to be ascertained.

During the 2025-26 regular season, Terry managed to score 19 goals and 38 assists for 57 points in 61 games for Anaheim. He didn’t play 11 games for the Ducks in January to tend to an upper-body injury.

It also caused him to miss nine games after the conclusion of the break for the 2026 Winter Olympics.

Terry returned to action on March 15 of this year before playing all 12 games in the NHL Playoffs, registering 11 points (3G / 8A) for the Ducks. This was also the first appearance for the franchise in the playoffs since 2018.

Apart from Terry, the Ducks’ captain and defenseman Radko Gudas was supposed to be cleared for action if they had made it to the Western Conference Finals. He suffered an ankle sprain in Game 1 of the first round of the playoffs against the Edmonton Oilers.

His fellow defenseman, Drew Helleson, was forced to miss the last three games of the second playoff round versus the Golden Knights due to a groin strain. Their defensive teammate, Pavel Mintyukov, too, was managing an MCL sprain in the same playoffs.

It is reported that Helleson and Mintyukov will appear in the preseason training camp for the Ducks at the start of the next season.

Cutter Gauthier Played in the NHL Playoffs Despite Suffering From a Back Fracture

The Ducks' forward, Cutter Gauthier, had revealed in the exit interview after the NHL Playoffs that he played in it for Anaheim despite suffering from a back fracture. He sustained broken L1 and L2 vertebrae in his back on March 30 during the Ducks' face-off against the Toronto Maple Leafs.

“I broke the L1 and L2 vertebrae in my back," he said. "Wasn't a very fun one for sure, having a broken back and not being able to play at your best. Got back as soon as I could. Lot shorter than what the docs and trainers thought, so kudos to them for putting in all the work to get me back healthy.”

Gauthier returned to action within two weeks ahead of the playoffs and continued playing through physical pain in the postseason without missing any games. He managed to score four goals and eight assists for 12 points in the 12 playoff games for the Ducks.

Center Ryan Poehling didn’t play Game 6 of the playoff series versus Vegas due to a concussion suffered after a hit from Golden Knights defenseman Brayden McNabb. He, too, has been medically cleared to return to action.
