Buffalo Sabres Troll Red Wings and Rival NHL Teams in Viral Social Media Roast

The Buffalo Sabres admin decided this Wednesday was the perfect day to shake the internet with some of the craziest NHL memes.

“Hello, it’s me. Sabres admin,” the X post read on July 15, 2026. “The offseason is draggin, and I have a lot of pent-up meme-ergy. I figured the impending schedule release would be the perfect time to flex my muscles a bit. And so, I present to you, our opponents in memes.”

Split into 7 rounds, the Sabres admin had just the right meme for every team and some extra punch for the Detroit Red Wings. Now that the Sabres have made the playoffs, a glory Detroit has yet to achieve, the meme seemed even more on point.

That’s a meme we all probably know. It's when a man (Tobey Maguire) looks at something without glasses and then with the glasses on. Sabres admin put a blurry New York Jets logo when Maguire is off his glasses, but then he puts them on, and that’s the Red Wings.

The Red Wings' 10-season drought pales next to the Jets' 15-year nightmare, a contrast the Sabres admin totally weaponized. And what makes the jab land harder is that the Sabres don't hold the NHL's longest playoff drought record anymore. It's Detroit now.

And this kind of roast wasn’t really hard to see coming from the Sabres admin.

The Admin's History of Calling Outs

With that 14-season playoff drought the Sabres were in, no wonder many didn’t see them getting over it anytime soon. Neither did hockey commentator Ryan Whitney. But clearly enough, Whitney didn’t believe in miracles, and Sabres admin wasn’t going to let go.

“You had it coming, @ryanwhitney6,” wrote the admin on April 14, 2026, after the Sabres clinched their first playoff berth since the 2010–11 season.

In the post, Whitney could be shown on a billboard banner with his infamous quote: "Buffalo's not making playoffs 0.000%." Right beside it is the Buffalo making headlines: "We're back."

So, no one gets away from Buffalo admin’s troll-wrath. To counter it, either the Red Wings admin has to come up with something, or the team should try to make a playoff trip.
