Martin St. Louis just channeled his inner Jordan Belfort. The Canadiens head coach ignited a raucous locker room celebration after a Game 7 win. His high-energy speech signaled a new era for the Montreal franchise.
He went into the locker room and created a fun celebration atmosphere with the players. Martin St. Louis said he usually stays out of the players’ space. But that night felt different, so he joined them to celebrate.
As per a post by Priyanta Emrith on X, the coach said, "I feel like you can't take the player outta me a little bit. I don't try to be in the locker room a lot because to me it's their space. But every now & then I've had moments with them... obviously on a night like tonight.” The coach also said he wanted to be with the players. “I wanted to be with them & we had some fun."
The win was very important for the Montreal Canadiens. If they had lost Game 7, they would have been out of the playoffs. So, after such a big win, it was natural for the coach to show strong emotions.
With high energy, Martin St. Louis celebrated in a fun way, like Leonardo DiCaprio in The Wolf of Wall Street. He shouted, “We’re not leaving!” and started a chest-pounding chant. The players joined him, and it turned into a fully joyful team celebration.
Martin St’s Louis Talked About Game 7 Win Despite Low Shots
On the ice, the Montreal Canadiens did not dominate, but they showed strong fighting spirit. Nick Suzuki scored the first goal late in the first period. Then Alex Newhook scored the winning goal early in the third.
Montreal took only nine shots and none in the second period, but they stayed calm and focused. Goalie Jakub Dobes made 28 saves and helped the team keep the lead.
Martin St. Louis felt Montreal got lucky in Game 7. He felt they deserved more earlier (in Game 6), when they created more opportunities.
“Tonight, what did we have, nine shots, 10 shots?” St. Louis said. “I felt like tonight they deserved better. I felt like Game 6, we probably deserved better, and Dobes kind of stole the game. Similar to the way (Andrei Vasilevskiy) stole the game in Game 6 in my mind.”
The Canadiens lost Game 6 by 1-0, which helped the Lightning to stretch the series to Game 7. They won Game 7 by 2-1 in a close affair, and now sealed the spot in Round 2.
The Montreal Canadiens will now play the Buffalo Sabres in Round 2, starting on May 06. In the end, the win meant a lot for the Montreal Canadiens. Let’s see how the Canadiens do in Round 2.
