The Washington Capitals have shown that they want to stay among the NHL's top teams. They added Jordan Kyrou and Alex Tuch in big offseason moves.

At the same time, many fans are wondering if captain Alex Ovechkin will play another NHL season or retire. Some also believe the team's new roster could affect his decision.

During an interview on 106.7 The Fan's "Grant and Danny" show, Capitals head coach Spencer Carbery said he spoke with Alex Ovechkin earlier on Thursday.

Ovechkin is currently on vacation with his family in Turkey. When asked if Washington's new signings could convince Ovechkin to return, Carbery said no decision has been made yet.

"I don't think so. I spoke to him this morning. He's on vacation with his family and doing some working out there, and spending time with his family. But at this point, no, there's been no decision. And he's sort of just sort of spending time with his family and trying to make the best decision." He said on podcast.

Carbery also said the Capitals are giving Alex Ovechkin as much time as he needs to make this important decision.

"And when he tells us he's ready to sort of decide, we'll be right there for him. So there's no timeline. There's no way I'm leaning that he did mention and say today that he's following and seeing the moves and was really happy for the organization about acquiring Jordan and Alex. I love hearing."

106.7 The Fan also shared the interview clip on Instagram. The Capitals captain has not decided if he will play another season. Carbery also said the Capitals will fully support Ovechkin whenever he makes his final decision.

Carbery says winning remains Ovechkin's top priority

The same interview with 106.7 The Fan also explained why the Capitals have made big moves this offseason, as reported by Russian Machine Never Breaks. Alex Ovechkin finished his 21st NHL season and is expected to announce his future in July.

He had earlier shared that timeline on a Russian-language podcast. Ovechkin has also said many times that his biggest goal is to compete for another Stanley Cup.

Carbery agreed with that idea. He said the Capitals added more depth at forward to make the team stronger, not to reduce Ovechkin's role. If Ovechkin returns, the team wants to give him the best chance to win.

"Above all, O wants to win. I know sometimes we lose track of that because the goals and the individual accolades, and he's (40)-years-old. He genuinely wants to win."

Carbery also said that adding more goal scorers will help Ovechkin and other veteran players play fewer minutes and stay fresh during the season. He even joked that he hopes the team's busy offseason continues after several big moves. 

Washington has worked hard to build a stronger roster, and Ovechkin has noticed those efforts. The Capitals have done everything they can, and now they are waiting for Ovechkin's decision. With July getting closer, fans and the organization continue to watch for his final choice.
