Uncertainty is still rising around the free agency of Claude Giroux. The veteran forward has been linked with multiple teams in recent weeks, and speculation about where he will play next continues to grow.

But amidst this, Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Citizen said that reports claiming Giroux has already made a decision are wrong. He said nothing is final yet, even though some reports suggest a deal is done.

In a post on X, Bruce Garrioch stated, “I don’t believe that he’s made a final decision on where he will play next season. Flyers are in the mix.”

His statement goes against earlier reports that Claude Giroux had already agreed to return to the Philadelphia Flyers. This keeps his future open and undecided.

Bruce Garrioch’s update matters because it comes at a time when many insiders believed a decision had already been made. Instead, he says Giroux is still considering options, and more than one team is still in the mix.

A key part of the situation is the Flyers’ interest. Some reports suggested a likely reunion, but Garrioch’s wording indicates that even Philadelphia’s role is not yet confirmed and remains part of an ongoing process.

Earlier, David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period and Daily Faceoff’s The Sheet reported that Claude Giroux was “signing with the Flyers.” He also said Giroux was seriously considering the Edmonton Oilers.

He added that the Flyers were once out of the race, but the situation kept changing, with Edmonton and Ottawa also in the mix at different times.

This has created confusion because no official deal has been announced after the reported signing claim. Giroux hasn't publicly made a comment yet on the rumors.

Meanwhile, Oilersnation reporter Michael Menzies said the Edmonton Oilers remain a realistic option because they have cap space and a suitable roster setup.

Oilers, Flyers, and Ottawa are still in the race

Beyond the immediate signing rumours, several reports say Claude Giroux still has an active market. David Pagnotta said on Daily Faceoff’s The Sheet that the Edmonton Oilers remain a strong option. He said they need a right-shot faceoff specialist and extra scoring help.

He also said the Ottawa Senators are still “on the table,” while interest from the Flyers has changed depending on their roster plans.

From Edmonton’s side, Bob Stauffer of Oilers Now also hinted at a possible link to Giroux, but he did not confirm any talks. This has added more uncertainty to the situation.

On the Philadelphia Flyers side, RB Hayek of ClutchPoints described a possible role for Claude Giroux if he returns. He said Philadelphia could use him in a depth position, playing in the middle six with skilled teammates. However, he also said there is still doubt about whether a reunion will actually happen due to lineup-fit concerns.

Giroux stayed productive last season with the Ottawa Senators, scoring 49 points in 82 games. He also led the NHL with a 63.1% faceoff win rate, according to league statistics.

With different insiders reporting different outcomes and no official confirmation yet, Giroux’s decision is still not final. His free agency situation remains open as teams continue to adjust their plans late in the offseason.
