Cole Caufield is on the brink of history. The Montreal Canadiens winger has 49 goals through 74 games, putting him in elite company this season. His performance, especially in clutch moments, is leaving the NHL world in awe.

His performance through 74 games has impressed fans, analysts, and opponents alike. Caufield’s consistency and clutch performances put him among the league's top goal-scorers and close to breaking a record. He has recorded 49 goals in 74 appearances till now this season. 

Caufield is currently second in the list of goal scorers. Only Nathan MacKinnon has more goals (only one more) than him in the list. What makes his season even more impressive is the manner in which those goals have come.

The winger has scored 39 even-strength goals, tying for the most in the league. This shows he can generate offense without relying on the power play.

Additionally, Caufield sustained a large labral tear in his right shoulder, which got worse by several severe falls in December 2022 and January 2023. In January 2023, a season-ending surgery was performed because, despite the player's desire to play, medical advice indicated that continued play would risk serious long-term damage.

He was fully recovered for the 2023–2024 training camp after the surgery was planned, giving him a window of five to six months. Caufield returned to full strength and played in all 82 games, setting new career highs in assists (37) and points (65).

When games go past regulation time, the 25-year-old shows his poise and deadly instinct by leading the NHL with five overtime goals. He also leads the league with 12 game-winning goals, highlighting his importance to the Canadiens.

Caufield led the charge against the New York Rangers on April 02, 2026. He scored two goals in a 3-2 win for the Canadiens. Alex Newhook draws first blood for the Canadiens, scoring at 04:36 in the second period.

Caufield scored his first goal at 06:20 with a snap shot. The Rangers started their comeback with Adam Fox scoring at 09:23 in the third period.
