The Edmonton Oilers have made another move to add depth in goal. While most of the focus is on the NHL roster, the team has quietly re-signed a goalie who showed steady improvement during the 2025–26 season.
Connor Ungar, a 24-year-old goaltender from Calgary, signed a one-year, two-way contract with Edmonton worth $850,000 annually. The contract rewards a strong season in which Ungar played well while moving between different leagues and teams.
The signing shows that the Edmonton Oilers believe in Connor Ungar and the progress he has made this season. He played in different leagues and with different teams, but he continued to perform well wherever he went.
His best results came with the Bakersfield Condors. In 13 games in which he started, he posted a 9-2-2 record, a 2.51 goals-against average, and a .923 save percentage.
Ungar also earned his first AHL shutout by making 25 saves against the Ontario Reign.
For the Edmonton Oilers, keeping Connor Ungar is about more than adding another goalie. The team is investing in a young player who continues to improve and move forward in his development.
Path to the NHL: Connor Ungar's Development Trajectory
The Edmonton Oilers signed Connor Ungar as a free agent from Brock University in March 2024. During the 2025–26 season, he proved himself at different levels of the organization and in the ECHL.
He started the season with the Greensboro Gargoyles, where he recorded a 2-1-1 record, a 1.42 goals-against average, and a .945 save percentage in four games. He also earned a shutout win against the Tahoe Knight Monsters.
After that, he was recalled to the Fort Wayne Komets. There, he won both of his starts while posting a 1.44 goals-against average and a .944 save percentage.
Ungar later joined the Orlando Solar Bears and made an immediate impact. In his first game, he recorded a 37-save shutout.
Over 19 games with Orlando, he finished with a 7-8-3 record, a 2.66 goals-against average, and a .913 save percentage. He also added two more shutouts.
Those performances earned him several call-ups to the Bakersfield Condors, where he continued to play well against tougher competition.
He won his first six starts with the Condors, helping establish himself as one of the Oilers' most promising goalie prospects.
By signing him to a new contract, the Edmonton Oilers have made sure that Ungar will continue his development within their organization.
