With their season hanging by a thread, the Vegas Golden Knights received both encouraging and disappointing news ahead of a must-win Game 6. Knights head coach John Tortorella gave his comments following the speculations around the roster to reporters on Saturday.

He gave mixed roster news as his team was on the brink of elimination against the Carolina Hurricanes. Sportsnet insider Elliotte Friedman echoed Tortorella's comments on social media, confirming that goaltender Carter Hart is ready to play while center William Karlsson will not be showing up on Sunday night.

"John Tortorella on Carter Hart: he’s ready to go. William Karlsson won’t play tomorrow," Friedman wrote on X on Saturday.

Tortorella's strong commitment to Hart shows us how much he trusts his team despite them having a shaky performance in the series this time.

Hart has become the first goalie in NHL history to allow four or more goals in each of the first five games of a Stanley Cup Final. This move got him a lot of criticism and raised debate about whether Adin Hill should be called for backup.

Despite his disappointing form, Tortorella remains confident in his ability to bounce back. Even after Thursday's Game 5 loss, Tortorella said, "I know there's a better game in him.” 

But the bad news came in with Karlsson’s unavailability. The center faced a hard hit from Carolina defenseman Sean Walker in the second period of Game 5 and left the ice after a trainer helped him and examined his left arm. ESPN's Emily Kaplan reported that Karlsson left the arena and did not return to the game. 

As the concerns around his attendance rose, Tortorella gave clarity the next morning: "William Karlsson won't play tomorrow," as relayed by Friedman. 

His absence in the next game could disrupt Vegas' pace in the next game. Tortorella acknowledged the impact of not having a player like that after Game 5.

"When we lose Bill, it kind of screws things up. We've got to find a way,” he said before adding, "We've got to find a way to fill that void not just with one guy, but as a team." 

That challenge becomes even more significant as the Golden Knights look to stay alive in the Stanley Cup Final.

The Carolina Hurricanes lead the best-of-seven series with a 3-2 lead after a 4-2 win in Game 5. This just puts them one win away from claiming the Stanley Cup.

The series has been pretty tight up to now. Most of the games were decided by a single goal, yet Carolina managed to take the lead before Sunday night.

Vegas has held up a strong postseason up to this point; they even defeated the Colorado Avalanche in the Western Conference Finals, but against the Hurricanes, they have struggled a bit to carry that same energy.

The Golden Knights are now on the brink of facing their first elimination game of the entire playoff run.
