Former Calgary Flames forward Dillon Dube could soon get another shot at the NHL. After two years away, his AHL dominance has caught the eye of the St. Louis Blues.

According to Jim Rutherford of The Athletic, the franchise could sign Dube to an NHL contract this offseason. 

Dube currently plays for the Springfield Thunderbirds, the Blues’ AHL affiliate, having joined on a professional tryout agreement. The forward capped a great season with 20 goals and 37 points in 46 regular-season games.

He retained his momentum in the playoffs, adding five goals and eight points in 12 games. The St. Louis Blues could utilize his scoring ability and NHL experience.

The franchise is expected to look at roster options this offseason. According to reports, the Blues see Dube as a possible option down the middle and a candidate for a fourth-line center role next season.

The fourth-line center position was a problem for the St. Louis Blues throughout the season.

Since shipping off Radek Faksa, the team has tried multiple players in the role to no avail. The Blues brought in Nick Bjugstad to fill in the hole, only to trade him for Thomas Bordeleau and a fourth-round pick.

The team eventually pinned Oskar Sundqvist and Jack Finley with those duties.

Dillon Dube could be an interesting option because of his speed, physical play, and versatility. Additionally, he brings experience without breaking the bank.

Why Dube's NHL Experience Matters Now

While Dube has not played an NHL game since the 2023-24 season, he has plenty of top-flight experience. Selected in the second round of the 2016 NHL Draft, he accrued 325 NHL games with the Calgary Flames.

During that time, he scored 57 goals and recorded 127 points.

After leaving the NHL, Dube played in the KHL before returning to American shores with the Springfield Thunderbirds in 2025.

For the St. Louis Blues, signing Dillon Dube could be a low-risk move with good potential. The team is preparing for fresh beginnings under the newly promoted General Manager, Alexander Steen.

The franchise is expected to add squad depth in the offseason. As free agency nears, Dube's situation with the Blues is becoming one of the more interesting comeback stories to follow.
