Former Pittsburgh Penguins forward Billy Tibbetts is once again in the spotlight following his reported arrest in connection with multiple harassment-related charges.
The authorities arrested the 51-year-old based on a warrant which is related to harassing the former Massachusetts police chief.
Billy Tibbetts, also known as William Tibbetts, used to be known as an enforcer in his playing days. But more than the ice, he has been in the spotlight for his off-ice incidents.
The former skater has a history of legal matters, and it was added to after the latest charges were alleged against him.
U.S. Marshals arrested Billy Tibbetts in Pennsylvania on March 17 after authorities issued a warrant from Scituate, Massachusetts.
After that, he was presented in the Hingham District Court on March 20, 2026. He pleaded not guilty to charges related to violating a harassment prevention order.
As per the court records, there are 7 counts of violating the harassment prevention order. Apart from those 7, he has been alleged for intimidating a witness or public official.
What Led to Billy Tibbetts’ Ongoing Conflict With a Former Police Chief?
Investigators allege that Billy Tibbetts used social media platforms to target former Scituate police chief W. Michael Stewart. The accusations stem from a long-running dispute between the two that began after his conviction in a statutory r*** case in 1992.
As per the authorities, Tibbetts continued posting online content about W. Michael Stewart despite a court order. The prosecutors talked about the videos that include serious allegations and personal attacks.
He was relieved after submitting a $25,000 bail amount in March. Now, the next hearing of this case will happen on May 15, 2026. That means the case is still open. There are no statements from the police or the former player's legal team at the time this story is being written.
The 51-year-old has been the talk of the town for his off-ice issues more than his performances on the ice. From 2000 to 2003, he played 82 games and earned 10 points, including 2 goals and 8 assists.
He represented the Pittsburgh Penguins, Philadelphia Flyers, and New York Rangers in the AHL and ECHL.
