Dylan Larkin submitted a trade request to the Detroit Red Wings a couple of weeks ago, and since then, nothing has officially changed regarding his status.
Notably, Larkin is currently on an eight-year, $69.6 million contract with the Red Wings, which he signed on March 1, 2023. The $8.7 million average annual value (AAV) deal began in the 2023-24 season with a no-trade clause between both parties.
In the latest development, NHL insider Chris Johnston name-dropped a franchise in his report for The Athletic, which could be the next destination for the Canadian.
"The Golden Knights — one of his favored destinations — could be lurking in the weeds here," Johnston wrote.

It is set to turn into a 10-team no-trade list ahead of the 2028-29 season, but Larkin apparently isn't waiting to stay in Detroit for that long.
He initially sent a trade list of three of the most preferred teams to the Red Wings GM Steve Yzerman, as per the report from HockeyFeed published over two weeks ago. It included the names of the Florida Panthers, Minnesota Wild, and the Vegas Golden Knights.
In response to the trade list sent to Yzerman, he asked Larkin to expand the number of teams on it. Per another insider, Pierre LeBrun, the Red Wings forward reportedly gave the names of the Anaheim Ducks, Tampa Bay Lightning, and the New York Islanders.
Why is Dylan Larkin looking to get traded away from the Detroit Red Wings?
Dylan Larkin has played for only one team in his 11-year NHL career: the Detroit Wings. After debuting for the team on October 9, 2015, against the Toronto Maple Leafs, loyalty has been strong.
The Red Wings selected him as the No. 15 pick in the 2014 NHL Draft before letting him develop his craft at the University of Michigan for one season in 2014-15. They had him forgo his final three years of college eligibility and gave him a three-year entry-level contract in the summer of 2015.
In his first season in Detroit, Larkin made the Stanley Cup Playoffs and contributed a goal, the first and only of his NHL career, in the first round defeat against the Tampa Bay Lightning in five games in 2016.
Since then, in his last 10 seasons, the Canadian hasn’t been able to make the playoffs, which might have made him hand in a trade request to the Red Wings. In April, the 2025-26 season ended in disappointment with no playoff spot once again.
In a press conference video shared by the Detroit Red Wings on its YouTube channel, Larkin said:
"I want to be here to help this team in any way I can to win the Stanley Cup. We need to get the Detroit Red Wings back in the playoffs. Not just me."
In his NHL career for the Red Wings, the 29-year-old has scored 643 points (276G / 367A) in 808 regular-season games.
