Team Canada has been the most successful in the IIHF Men's Ice Hockey World Championship history. They hold 28 gold medals, but 2026 was not their year. While the team exited in the bronze-medal round, the Canadian captain, Macklin Celebrini, found himself graced with not one, but two great honors.
At just 19 years old, Celebrini was named the Best Forward of the 2026 IIHF Men's Ice Hockey World Championship. This was not all. The San Jose Sharks player was also named to the Media All-Star team.
The official Hockey Canada X account announced Celebrini's honors (June 1, 2026), praising the North Vancouver native.
Celebrini is no stranger to international games. He debuted for Canada in the 2022 World U-17 Hockey Challenge alongside the under-17 team. The very next year, he was named to the Canadian team for the 2023 World U18 Championships.
The Canadian star has been unstoppable since. He was drafted by the San Jose Sharks with the first overall pick back in 2024. In his rookie year, he was a finalist for the best rookie award, the Calder Memorial Trophy. His scoring prowess earned him a spot on Canada's 2026 World Championship roster
Celebrini had an incredible performance in the 2026 World Championship, finishing in the top two in scoring leaders. He played in 10 games and scored six goals, along with eight assists. He finished with 14 points to his name.
His scoring was second only to that of Swiss forward Sven Andrighetto, who had 15 points from four goals and 11 assists. Regardless of this, hockey fans universally lauded Celebrini for his recent achievements.
Fans Overjoyed as Macklin Celebrini Wins Honors at 2026 World Championship
Fans from around the world witnessed as the young Canadian stood atop the world of ice hockey, earning international Best Forward honors in his first two NHL seasons.
As soon as the announcement went out, the same fans flooded the comment section with wholesome reactions to Celebrini’s achievements.
One fan commented on Celebrini’s illustrious future, which hopefully holds many more such awards and accolades.
“The future is bright! The kid grew so much and did an exceptional job as a young Captain 💕 Good work Celebrini~ we will conquer medals and cups in a near future”
Another fan noted that Celebrini has played well in every overseas game, expressing support for his playstyle.

Celebrini made history as the youngest NHL player ever to play for Canada at the 2026 Winter Olympics. He also scored Canada’s first goal.

Another Canadian fan was overjoyed at the fact that Celebrini was the captain of their team.

The youngster is clearly loved by the fans, and his performances are proof of why.
