The Carolina Hurricanes breathed a sigh of relief as they lifted the Stanley Cup after 20 years. The team celebrated the moment at the T-Mobile Arena in Nevada, winning their second Stanley Cup title, their first since 2006.

They defeated the Vegas Golden Knights 3-0 in Game 6 to secure the title following an impressive run in the playoffs. They have only lost three games in the 2025-26 postseason, making a dominant run for the Stanley Cup.

"16-3 in the playoffs…a dominant run to the Stanley Cup for Carolina," NHL insider Elliotte Friedman wrote in a post on X on Sunday.

The Carolina Hurricanes faced the Ottawa Senators in the conference first round and had a dominating 2-0 win in Game 1. They maintained the momentum, winning the second game 3-2, followed by two more wins to complete a sweep for the second conference round, where they then won against the Philadelphia Flyers to have a stunning 8-0 run in the playoffs while entering the Eastern Conference Finals.

But unfortunately, after eight straight wins, they lost against the Montreal Canadiens in Game 1, 6-2. However, things again turned in their favor, and they won the next four games to win the best-of-seven series and made it to the Stanley Cup Finals.

The Finals started with a loss against Vegas, 5-4, but they tied it 1-1 after winning the next game, 4-2. Despite the good start, they lost Game 3 in a 5-4 double-overtime thriller, which was followed by three straight wins and culminated in the Stanley Cup title.

Hurricanes Send a Four-Word Strong Message After the Second Stanley Cup win

The Finals were nothing short of dramatic, but the two-decade-long wait came to an end for the Hurricanes. They celebrated the big win by sharing the trophy picture on their X account along with a strong four-word message.

"Stronger than the rest," Hurricanes wrote.

When the Hurricanes won the Cup back in 2006, Rod Brind'Amour was the team captain, and now he has won the Stanley Cup as the head coach of the team.

However, it was an unimpressive run for Vegas, which made a few changes in the team while aiming for their must-win game and pushing the series to Game 7.

On Sunday, Brett Howden came in to replace William Karlsson, who was injured during Game 5. Even Carter Hart, who became the first goaltender in NHL history to have allowed at least four goals in the Stanley Cup Finals' first five games, improved and made 20 saves. But despite the effort, Vegas lost to the Hurricanes.

For the Hurricanes, captain Jordan Staal, 37, had a dominating run and won the Conn Smythe Trophy as the playoff MVP. He also became the oldest player to win the award.
