With the Stanley Cup within touching distance, Carolina Hurricanes head coach Rod Brind’Amour delivered a powerful message to remain focused ahead of the biggest game of their season. The Hurricanes are currently leading the Cup Final 3-2, with Game 6 set to happen on Sunday, June 14, at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Brind’Amour sent out a clear message of intent to his players before Game 6 against the Vegas Golden Knights. On June 13, Carolina team reporter Walt Ruff shared a video on his official X account featuring the coach discussing what his players need to do heading into the crucial game.

“You have to approach it like a normal game,” read Brind’Amour’s instructions to his players for the upcoming game. “You can’t get ahead of yourself because it’ll never work.”

Notably, the 55-year-old is on the cusp of securing the Stanley Cup for the Hurricanes if they beat the Vegas Golden Knights in Game 6 on Sunday. With that, he will also become a part of the illustrious list of individuals to win the prestigious title as a player and a coach for the same franchise in the NHL.

Brind’Amour was the captain when Carolina won their first-ever Stanley Cup title in 2006 after beating the Edmonton Oilers.

“No one knows what’s gonna happen tomorrow. I know we're gonna have to play our best game. We know that,” said Carolina’s coach in a pregame statement. “So, however that has to happen. If it needs to be late, that’s great. If it needs to be dead serious. We need to do that too. I just think we understand that.”

He also alluded to one of the good qualities of his players, which could serve them in Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Final.

“One thing this group has done over the years is been able to focus on what they have to get done, and that’s what I am expecting tomorrow,” he added.

Brind'Amour's message reflected the confidence and composure that have defined Carolina's playoff run, qualities that have not gone unnoticed by his players.

When the Carolina Hurricanes players were asked about the oratory skills of the team’s head coach, Rod Brind’Amour, they lauded him.

“He’s a great motivator, and he puts in time to do what he does,” Jordan Staal, the Hurricanes captain and center, said about Brind’Amour. “He’s played before, so he understands the feel of a team; looking across the room and looking in everyone’s eyes and understanding they need to bring it and (that) you need to bring it for them. I think he understands that.”

Carolina defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere revealed that Brind’Amour always brings “something different” to every pregame speech, which seems genuine to him.

Meanwhile, his fellow defenseman Jaccob Slavin mentioned how the Hurricanes coach talks about “creating memories” through winning the big one. He also pointed out the opportunity to do the same by securing the Stanley Cup title with a victory in either Game 6 or 7 against the Vegas Golden Knights.
