As the 2026 NHL draft gets closer, the Carolina Hurricanes are in a very stable position. While many teams around the league are dealing with coaching changes, front-office moves, and long-term planning, Carolina has no questions about its head coach.

That became even clearer after Hurricanes owner Tom Dundon publicly supported head coach Rod Brind'Amour. His comments showed what many people around the league already believed: Brind'Amour is a key part of the franchise, and his future with the team is secure for as long as he wants to stay.

The conversation started when a reporter suggested that Brind'Amour had earned the right to be Carolina’s coach for life. Dundon quickly agreed.

"Yeah, I mean, that was already the deal," Dundon said. "Rob was always going to be the coach. Since I hired him, he was going to be the coach as long as he wanted to be the coach. So y'all can help me because it's stressful, right?"

That comment showed how much Tom Dundon trusts Rod Brind'Amour. It also showed the strong relationship they have built since Brind’Amour became head coach of the Carolina Hurricanes in 2018.

Dundon then explained why he believes Brind'Amour has been so successful as a coach.

"The reason he's so good at it is because he cares so much, but it's also the thing that could cost us over time, right? How long can you go through?"

Those comments show the passion and energy that Rod Brind'Amour brings to the job. His high standards and strong commitment have helped turn the Carolina Hurricanes into one of the NHL’s most consistent contenders.

The legacy of Rod Brind'Amour continues to grow in Carolina

Rod Brind'Amour’s connection to the Carolina Hurricanes is not only because he is the head coach today. He first joined the team in 2011 as an assistant and development coach. Later, he became the head coach on May 8, 2018.

The results have been outstanding. In his first season as head coach, he led Carolina to its first playoff appearance in 10 years and helped the team reach the Eastern Conference Final.

He later became the first coach in franchise history to guide the Hurricanes to the playoffs in three straight seasons and won the Jack Adams Award in 2021.

In December 2024, Rod Brind'Amour became the fastest coach in NHL history to reach 300 wins, doing it in just 488 games. In the 2025–26 season, he led the Carolina Hurricanes to a Metropolitan Division title and then to a Stanley Cup win.

Winning the Stanley Cup became another big achievement in Brind’Amour’s career. Before becoming a coach, he played 1,484 NHL games and recorded 1,184 points. The championship also made him one of the few people in NHL history to win the Stanley Cup with the same organization as both a captain and a head coach.
