The Colorado Avalanche have decided to continue their journey with Jared Bednar as head coach despite the team falling short of the Stanley Cup. The team was impressive during the regular season and successfully secured a spot in the playoffs.
However, they just fell short of the Stanley Cup after losing to the Vegas Golden Knights in the Western Conference Finals. Following the defeat, one of the biggest questions surrounding the franchise was the future of its head coach. The Avalanche have now chosen to move forward with Bednar for the next season, according to NHL insider Elliotte Friedman.
Jared Bednar started his journey with the Avalanche in 2016 by replacing Patrick Roy as the new head coach. Under his leadership, the Avalanche missed the playoffs in the 2016-17 season.
However, Colorado returned to the playoffs the following year before being eliminated in the first round. The team eventually won the Stanley Cup in 2022. In his ten years with the team, the Avalanche made it to the playoffs nine times.
But despite his impressive stats, the Avalanche fans were not satisfied with the news and expressed their opinion on social media.
Avalanche Fans Disappointed with Bednar Staying
Sportsnet had shared a new post about Jared Bednar on its X (formerly Twitter) account. Fans reacted in the comments section and expressed their disappointment with the news.
A fan said, "Fan Reacts—Oh, cool. Another year with no accountability. Looking forward to everyone complaining about the power play next year and then being shocked when they can’t win the playoffs."
Another one said that next year, the team also could not get the Cup. "OMG, how many choke jobs does it take?" said a fan.
"That sucks," one more added:
Yet another fan reflected on his disappointment and added, "Another wasted year coming up."
This year, the Avalanche had a good start in the postseason and swept the Los Angeles Kings 4-0 in the first round, then won the second round 4-1 against the Minnesota Wild.
But despite an impressive run in the first two rounds, they had a tough time in the Conference Final and lost 4-0 to the Vegas Golden Knights, who secured their spot in the Stanley Cup.
