Jesse Puljujarvi reportedly lost his 2026 IIHF World Championship gold medal less than a month after winning it. The incident occurred at the Ake Karaoke Bar in Helsinki last Monday after it was displayed there. However, the fans aren't surprised.

Gino Hard on X quoted Finnish podcast Urheilucast, which broke the news of the medal going missing.

"Citizens are being asked to check karaoke bars around Helsinki, as Jesse is offering a reward for the medal's return (via @urheilucast),” they captioned the post.

Meanwhile, Daily Faceoff reported on what Puljujarvi told Finnish tabloid newspaper website, Iltalehti. The 28-year-old told them that he gave people the chance to see his medal in the evening hours at the karaoke bar on June 8, but it was the last he saw of it.

“The medal was on display,” said Puljujarvi, as per a quote translated from Iltalehti. "People were allowed to look at it, but my medal was never returned," he added.

During the World Championship last month in Switzerland, Puljujarvi was quite a prominent feature in Finland’s gold medal victory. He scored 9 points in 10 games for his country, including 4 goals and 5 assists.

But Why Did Fans Find the Jesse Puljujarvi Situation Funny?

Jesse Puljujarvi played for four NHL teams from 2016 to 2025 before joining Finnish hockey club Genette-Servette last year. During his time in America, he became famous for his goofy, unfiltered personality

“I can’t explain it, but that’s probably the most Jesse Puljujarvi thing to happen,” said one fan.

“This the funniest NHL player of all time 😭,” wrote one of them for the Finnish player, while another one remarked, “Literal legend.”

Despite losing his medal, Jesse Puljujarvi himself stuck to his signature humor, according to the Finnish Tabloid.

“It doesn’t really have any value to anyone other than those who won it… I will offer the person who returns it ice cream, a coffee with a bun, or even both, if I get it back,” he remarked.

So it's no wonder so many fans actually found the incident funny. “This dude can’t catch a break LOL,” one fan wrote.

“I would also get blackout at a karaoke bar if I won Worlds. God, I love karaoke,” remarked one of the fans at the place where Puljujarvi lost his medal.
