Detroit Red Wings captain and center, Dylan Larkin, has been the talk of town from the time he put in a trade request to the front office earlier this month. Since then, there have been a lot of names thrown around for a trade proposal concerning the 29-year-old Canadian player.

When the name of Utah Mammoth center Logan Cooley, 22, came about, ex-St. Louis Blues defenseman Jordan Schmaltz dismissed it in a brutal take on his official X account. The 32-year-old American wasn’t having any of the Cooley-for-Larkin trade proposal while implying it was a bad take.

“No idea who this guy is (respectfully) but if you think the Utah Mammoth are trading Logan Cooley for Dylan Larkin you are smoking some of the stiffest P** known to mankind. What a dipshit take. Respectfully, of course. - People’s,” he remarked.

Schmaltz had actually quoted a video post from Woodward Sports Network on X, in which Spencer Rexter mentioned the scenario for the Cooley-For-Larkin trade proposal.

In the clip, Rexter called Cooley the “crown jewel” in a potential package to complete the trade deal for Larkin. He also compared Cooley with the Red Wings star, calling him a 22-year-old Larkin while mentioning his stats from the debut NHL season with the Mammoth.

Notably, Cooley played 54 games in the 2025-26 regular season, scoring 43 points (24G / 19A) with a plus-3 rating. His role was crucial for the Mammoth to make the Stanley Cup Playoffs after finishing in fourth place in the Central Division with a 43-33-6 record for 92 points.

In his first postseason, Cooley competed in each of the six games during the first round of the Western Conference playoff series against the Vegas Golden Knights. Although Mammoth exited the competition with a 4-2 series defeat, he gave a good account of himself with three points (2G / 1A) for a plus-2 rating.

With that, the youngster can be an option for the Red Wings to consider while moving Larkin elsewhere this summer.

What Is The Current Status Of Dylan Larkin’s Trade Request To Detroit Red Wings?

When Dylan Larkin sent in a trade request to the Detroit Red Wings front office, he had three teams on his mind for a trade list.

In the recent report from Pierre LeBrun of The Athletic, the names of those three teams were mentioned, including the Minnesota Wild, the Vegas Golden Knights, and the Florida Panthers. But he also stated that Red Wings GM Steve Yzerman asked Larkin to expand the trade list while working with his agent Pat Brisson.

“Yzerman went back to Brisson and asked to expand their original list of three teams, and my sense is that Brisson was receptive to that to some degree,” LeBrun wrote.

After that, a report from HockeyFeed had details of the three new teams in the expanded trade list that Larkin sent to Yzerman and the Red Wings front office. According to the insiders associated with them, the names were the Anaheim Ducks, the Tampa Bay Lightning, and the New York Islanders.

While Larkin might not be on the same page with Yzerman after sending in a trade request, they will have to put their differences aside to do business with each other.
