Jonathan Toews is expected to retire officially, bringing an end to one of the most successful careers of the modern NHL era.

According to NHL insider David Pagnotta, who shared the update on X, the Winnipeg Jets scheduled an 11 a.m. CT press conference on Friday where Toews is expected to announce his retirement from professional hockey.

The announcement will close the chapter on an outstanding career that made Toews one of the NHL’s top leaders and two-way forwards. In 1,149 regular-season games, he recorded 912 points.

He built an impressive résumé that includes three Stanley Cup championships, the Conn Smythe Trophy in 2010, the Frank J. Selke Trophy in 2013, and the Mark Messier Leadership Award in 2015.

Even in his final NHL season with the Winnipeg Jets in 2025–26, Jonathan Toews remained an important contributor.

He played all 82 games and recorded 29 points. His playoff record was even more impressive, as he collected 119 points (45 goals and 74 assists) in 137 postseason games, building a reputation as one of hockey’s most reliable players in big moments.

As reports of his retirement spread on social media, fans quickly shared tributes. Many supporters, especially those who watched Toews lead the Chicago Blackhawks dynasty during the 2010s, praised both his achievements and his leadership.

Many fans expressed gratitude as they reflected on the legacy Jonathan Toews leaves behind after nearly 20 years in the NHL.

One fan said, “Congrats on a great career Toews.” Fans praised his championships, leadership, and steady play throughout his career.

Others remembered the nickname that became closely linked to his serious approach and desire to win.

Another fan commented, “Thank you Captain Serious.” The comments showed the respect Toews earned across the hockey world.

Supporters of the Chicago Blackhawks were especially emotional. One fan even encouraged the former captain to stay involved with the organization in some role.

“Legend. Come home to Chicago and mentor these young guns.” said another fan.

The reaction reflects the belief among many Blackhawks fans that Toews still has valuable knowledge and experience to share with the team’s next generation of players.

Another tribute highlighted Jonathan Toews’s deep connection with the city of Chicago.

The reactions showed the strong bond between Toews and the fans he helped lead to three Stanley Cup championships with the Chicago Blackhawks.

Not every fan focused only on his championships. One supporter said they wished Toews had played a little longer.

“Man, I would fight for that 1000 points.. just like spezza left being so close.” a fan said.

The comment referred to the fact that Toews finishes his career with 912 points, falling short of the 1,000-point milestone.
