The Toronto Maple Leafs added another prospect to the list on Monday. They signed the 18-year-old forward Tinus Luc Koblar to a three-year entry-level contract in an attempt to put together a younger roster.

2026 saw the Maple Leafs miss the National Hockey League playoffs for the first time since 2016. Finishing last in the Atlantic division, with a record of 32-36-14, they were awarded the first overall pick in the 2026 NHL Draft. Koblar is the first piece in their offseason strategy.

Koblar was born in Kranj, Slovenia, and raised in Norway. Toronto selected him 64th overall in the second round of the 2025 NHL Draft. Koblar soon moved into a full-time role with Leksands IF of the Swedish Hockey League and appeared in 47 games, recording 14 points on eight goals and six assists.

His journey from Norway's junior ranks to Leksands' under-18 program in Sweden at age 16, before earning a spot in the full SHL, showcases the amount of effort he put into his game even as a teen.

This Maple Leafs' signing happened during a standout spring season on the international stage. At the 2026 IIHF World Junior Championship, he competed in Division I Group A, representing Norway. 

Koblar put up 10 points (five goals and five assists) across five games. He then carried his pace into the senior World Championship in Switzerland, scoring nine points with six goals and three assists across 10 games. Norway won bronze at that tournament and defeated Canada 3-2 in overtime.

Koblar is not expected to fight for a spot on the NHL roster immediately, but the Leafs clearly see some potential in this player. Fans, too, seem to be on board.

Fans Already Having Fun With the Signing

The announcement of Tinus Luc Koblar's signing landed really well with Maple Leafs fans, who were quick to celebrate this move online.

"Let's go. This kid really stood out at world's," one fan wrote, validating Koblar's performance in Switzerland.

Others have already started imagining a future where the Leafs' young core starts dominating the league.

"McKenna Cowan, Danford, and Tingus Pingus running the league now," one more comment read.

A possible Stanley Cup win, too, was mentioned quickly in the comments.

"This is it. Stanley Cup for sure! 😄🎉," one fan declared.

Others also left simpler reactions while still showing their support towards this: "Awesome. Leafs can't stop winning", and "The finals are over, we can now get back to the Leafs running the league."

It might take more time to find out how Koblar can adjust to the NHL. But for now, this move gives the Leafs fans one more reason to keep up their hopes for the upcoming seasons.
