Michael McCarron re-signed with the Minnesota Wild on a six-year contract worth $20 million on Tuesday, June 9. The 31-year-old was slated to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1, but now, he will stay with them for a long time.
NHL insider and Sportsnet reporter Elliotte Friedman’s post on social media about McCarron closing in on a deal to stay with the Wild.
“As has been rumored, the Minnesota Wild are closing in on re-signing Michael McCarron. He will be staying,” wrote Friedman in his claim on his official X account on Tuesday morning.
It was confirmed within an hour after the Wild took to their official account on X to reveal the news of McCarron re-signing with them.
McCarron will continue playing with Minnesota for the next six seasons at an average annual value of $3.33 million.
“Couldn’t be more excited to be in the ’State of Hockey’ for the next six years,” said McCarron in a video shared by the Wild on X. "Can’t wait to get this thing going again.”
Notably, McCarron had signed with the Wild from the Nashville Predators on March 3 of this year. The deal was done for a second-round pick in the 2028 NHL Draft, which the Predators received from the Wild.
After joining Minnesota recently, he scored five points (3G/2A) in 20 games during the 2025-26 regular season. The forward also registered four points to his name in the 11 Stanley Cup Playoff games, including two goals and two assists.
The journey in the playoffs for McCarron and the Wild ended in the second round after losing to the Colorado Avalanche 4-1 in the Western Conference.
How Was Michael McCarron Performing at the Nashville Predators in 2025-26 Before the Trade?
Before joining the Minnesota Wild, Michael McCarron was quite decent with his performances at the Nashville Predators in the 2025-26 season. He had played 59 games for them, scoring 12 points (5G / 7A), and was first in the list of their forwards in short-handed time of 2:29 on ice.
After joining the Predators on January 7, 2020, McCarron made 292 appearances for them, registering 66 points (31G / 35A). He also competed for them in eight playoff games over two seasons, without putting his name on the scoresheet.
His initial foray into the NHL was with the Montreal Canadiens after becoming the No. 25 pick in the first round of the 2013 NHL Draft. Following his incredible work in the AHL, he was called up by the Canadiens to make his NHL debut on December 19, 2015.
From that point onwards, McCarron ended up making 69 appearances for Montreal across three seasons, scoring eight points (2G / 6A). He didn’t play any games for them in the 2018-19 and 2019-20 seasons before getting traded to the Predators, and now playing for the Wild.
