Mitch Marner finally achieved a long-awaited playoff breakthrough after leaving the Toronto Maple Leafs and joining the Vegas Golden Knights.
After nine seasons in Toronto without going past the second round, he reached the Stanley Cup Final in his first year with Vegas. This has changed the way people see his playoff career.
His move away from the Toronto Maple Leafs ended years of playoff disappointment for both him and the team, where big expectations never matched results. In the Vegas Golden Knights, his role became more balanced.
Marner now plays strong two-way hockey with skill and physical effort. He quickly built chemistry with Jack Eichel, and together they have become one of the best scoring duos in the playoffs.
During the 2025–26 regular season, Mitch Marner had a strong year. He scored 80 points in 81 games, including 24 goals. The winger carried that form into the playoffs and raised his game even higher.
He now leads all scorers with 21 points and is helping the Vegas Golden Knights push deep into another championship run.
The Vegas Golden Knights dominated the Western Conference Final by sweeping the Colorado Avalanche and reaching the Stanley Cup Final for the third time since joining the NHL in 2017.
They won the series in four straight games: 4-2, 3-1, 5-3, and 2-1, showing strong balance, depth, and clutch finishing against a strong favorite.
The series showed again that Vegas is a deep, system-based team that can control tight playoff games.

Nick Suzuki leads the Montreal Canadiens with 16 points. Nathan MacKinnon had 15 points in 13 games, while Kirill Kaprizov had 15 points in 11 games.

MacKinnon still keeps the Colorado Avalanche competitive, even in tough situations, while Kaprizov leads the Minnesota Wild offense despite fewer games.
Now heading into the Stanley Cup Final, the Vegas Golden Knights look like one of the most complete teams in recent years, with star power, depth scoring, and strong playoff form. Marner’s breakout season remains the biggest storyline of the playoffs.
