Mitch Marner gave Vegas Golden Knights fans many great moments in his first season. He joined the team in the 2025 offseason, scored 80 regular-season points, and led the NHL with 29 playoff points. He helped Vegas reach the Stanley Cup final.

Later, the NHL asked star players to name the best goal of their careers. Many fans expected Marner to pick a goal he might have scored for Vegas. Instead, he chose a goal he scored years ago, and it was against Vegas.

While watching a highlight goal, Mitch Marner said it was not his best. He then explained why he picked another goal.

Marner explained his choice, “I kind of walked in off the blue line coming down the hill.... I know he’s a forward, so I kind of took him wide, made a play and then I had him one-on-one there in the slot. Tried to pump fake a move and tried to get him to bite and lucky enough he did. I don’t think this is my prettiest goal, though. I think actually the one I scored against Vegas.”

As per the report by Jason Pothier on Sinbin Vegas, Marner scored the goal in November 2021 with the Maple Leafs. He made a great solo move and beat Brayden McNabb. Even after joining Vegas, Marner still calls it the best goal of his career. He also shared another favorite goal from his Toronto days.

“I think maybe three years ago was probably my prettiest one. I kind of made a move out from the goal line. I made a made around the goalie and I think that was probably one of my prettier ones. That one was pretty cool", he added.

Marner won the Stanley Cup with Vegas, but he still keeps some of his best memories from Toronto close to his heart.

Even though Marner's favorite goal came before he joined the Golden Knights, he scored many great goals in his first season with Vegas. He scored 24 goals in the regular season.

Fans loved his two-goal game against the Calgary Flames, his wraparound goal against the San Jose Sharks, his power-play goal against the Los Angeles Kings, and his give-and-go goal against the Pittsburgh Penguins.

One of Marner's best moments with Vegas came in Game 6 of the 2026 Second Round against the Anaheim Ducks. On his first shift, William Karlsson passed the puck to him.

Marner got past defenseman Jackson Lacombe and beat goalie Lukas Dostal with a between-the-legs goal. It became one of the biggest moments of Vegas' Stanley Cup playoff run.

Marner also scored a long-range goal in the Stanley Cup Final to finish an amazing playoff run. After only one season with Vegas, he already has many great goals. His favorite goal is still from his Maple Leafs days, but Golden Knights fans hope he will score even better goals in the future.

Marner's choice shows that players often remember the special moments behind a goal, not just the goal itself. His favorite is still the one he scored against Vegas, but his first season with the Golden Knights gave fans many unforgettable highlights.
