New York Rangers Stars Create Unique NYR History Since 1982

The New York Rangers just rewrote their history books. For the first time in over 40 years, two young stars accomplished a rare offensive feat over a stunning weekend, giving fans a major reason to celebrate.

The team recorded a hat‑trick in two consecutive games, a feat that has not been seen since 1982. On April 04, 2026, rookie forward Gabe Perreault scored a hat-trick against the Detroit Red Wings at Madison Square Garden. He helped his team win the game 4-1.

A day later, on April 05, 2026, another young winger, Will Cuylle, scored a hat-trick against the Washington Capitals at the same venue. The Rangers secured a convincing 8-1 win in that game.

In 1982, Mike Rogers and Mark Pavelich scored hat-tricks in two back-to-back games for the Rangers.

On November 20, 1982, Mike Rogers scored a hat-trick in a 6-3 game against the Toronto Maple Leafs. In the next game (November 21, 1982), fellow Olympian Mark Pavelich suited up for the New York Rangers, scoring a hat trick against the New York Islanders.

When New York Rangers’ Perreault and Cuylle Found the Net

It was Perreault who first joined the party against the Wings. He scored his first goal at 15:59 in the first period. In the third period, he scored two more goals at 07:13 and 18:16.

All three of his goals came through his strong wrist shot. It is his first full season with the New York Rangers.

The next day, it was Cuylle’s turn to help the Rangers complete the 44-year breakthrough. Against the Capitals, his first goal came with just a tip-in, well assisted by Schneider and Brodzinski, at 05:53 in the 2nd period.

Less than 3 minutes later, he scored another goal at 08:33, thanks to his powerful wrist shot. When the team was leading 7-1, he scored his third goal at 19:28 in the third period with a snap shot.

While the team is mathematically eliminated from playoff contention, these performances offered a spark for the franchise and its fans.

It will be interesting to see if they can make 3 in 3 in their next game against the Buffalo Sabres on April 08, 2026.
