The Philadelphia Flyers might have missed out on an opportunity to secure a deeper Stanley Cup playoff run, but they have already started preparing for next season. The team is reportedly looking to sign goaltender Dan Vladar to a contract extension.
The Czech Republic-born player joined the Flyers ahead of the 2025–26 season. He was signed for around $6.7 million for two years. Now, following his first breakout season with the team, NHL insider Kevin Weekes says that the Flyers are now looking forward to having a five-year contract with him, as shared by him in a post on X on Sunday.
"Per sources, I’m told G Vladar and the @NHLFlyers
are working towards closing in on a 5 Yr Contract Extension that’s likely to land in the mid 5M AAV range. #HockeyX," Weekes wrote.
Dan Vladar spent four seasons with the Calgary Flames and then became a free agent last year before he was offered a deal by the Flyers. He went on to enjoy the best season of his professional career in Philadelphia.
How Did Dan Vladar Play With the Flyers
Dan Vladar enjoyed a remarkable first season with the Philadelphia Flyers. During the regular season, he appeared in 52 games and saved 51 goals.
The Flyers advanced to the playoffs, where Vladar played in 10 postseason games and had ten saves.
For the Flyers, the playoffs started with them playing against the Pittsburgh Penguins in the Conference First Round, where they won four games and made it to the second round of the Western Conference.
But things were different in the second round. The team went on to lose four matchups and had an early exit from the race to the Stanley Cup. The Flyers last won the Stanley Cup in 1975 and have been looking for the title.
This year, the Carolina Hurricanes and Vegas Golden Knights have made it to the finals. The Hurricanes had a great run and won the Cup for the second time, with a series score of 4–2.
Although this season was tough for the Flyers, they would be hoping to bounce back in the next one, and it would be interesting to see how things will unfold for them.
