Jason Robertson trade talks have changed quickly as the NHL offseason heats up. A deal that once looked like a possible sign-and-trade with several teams is now slowing down, as teams start to hesitate after new updates about his situation with the Dallas Stars.

According to Pierre LeBrun of The Athletic, the Stars are now trying to contact teams again that had shown interest in Robertson earlier.

“Re Jason Robertson/Stars: They've spent the last 24 hours trying to re-engage with teams that had shown interest; the problem is a lot of those teams saw what he turned down in Seattle and I think it's given some of them some pause," the NHL Rumour Report tweeted on X on June 28.

LeBrun’s update shows a growing problem for Dallas, as some teams are now rethinking the risk after Robertson turned down a big opportunity with Seattle.

Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reported that the Kraken offered Robertson an eight-year contract worth about $15 million per year in a possible sign-and-trade deal, after the club received permission from the Dallas Stars to talk to him.

A $15 million average salary would make it the second-highest contract in the NHL next season, behind Kirill Kaprizov's $17 million and ahead of Leon Draisaitl's $14 million. According to Spotrac, the deal's total value of $120 million would also rank second in the league.

Even with that huge offer, Robertson rejected it. Friedman said the decision was more about team fit than money. This rejection is now being discussed across the league and is affecting how other general managers see his trade value.

Blues rejection adds to growing caution in the trade market

The impact has gone beyond Seattle. According to Daniel Lucente of House of Hockey, Robertson also rejected interest from the St. Louis Blues. This shows that where he wants to play is very important to him.

Dallas GM Jim Nill also considered various trade ideas, including deals involving high draft picks.

"Sources say Toronto and Dallas had talks about Stars potentially flipping No. 7 overall from #SeaKraken in a deal for Matthew Knies to help replace Jason Robertson," as reported by insider Frank Seravalli on X on June 25.

But now, teams are more careful. The uncertainty surrounding Robertson has made trade talks more difficult, and teams want clearer answers before giving up major assets.

This change also affects trade leverage, as teams now balance Robertson’s top-level scoring with questions about whether he would stay long-term after a trade.

Dallas still has a 45-goal winger heading into restricted free agency, but fewer teams now look ready to make strong offers at this key stage.
