The Tampa Bay Lightning face a major hurdle in their playoff push. Captain Victor Hedman has abruptly stepped away from the team for personal reasons. The timing of the leave adds significant pressure as the regular season concludes.
The announcement came during a crucial stage of the regular season as the Lightning continues to strengthen its case for the playoff position. There is no injury issue or any other concern disclosed. is taking a temporary leave of absence for personal reasons.
"No further details will be shared, and the team asks that his privacy be respected at this time," the organization said in a statement.
This season, the 35-year-old registered 17 points in 33 games. It includes 16 assists and a goal. Overall, he has scored 172 goals and has 639 assists in 1164 games in his career so far.
Earlier, Hedman struggled with an undisclosed injury in November 2025. In December, he underwent elbow surgery. Despite those setbacks, he has continued to provide steady performance on the blue line whenever healthy.
