NJ Devils’ 19-Second Magic to Hand Blackhawks Shocking Loss on Sunday

The New Jersey Devils produced a stunning late comeback on Sunday night, scoring two goals in just 19 seconds to defeat the Chicago Blackhawks 5–3 in an electrifying NHL contest.

On March 29, 2026 (Sunday), the New Jersey Devils played out a see-saw battle against the Chicago Blackhawks on March 29, 2026. The dramatic turnaround left fans at the arena in disbelief and highlighted the Devils’ ability to hold their nerves.

When the Chicago was leading 3-2 with less than 6 minutes left in the game, the Devils pulled off a match-changing moment. First, Dougie Hamilton scored an equalizer at 14:32 (3rd period). His snapshot kept the score 3-3.

Then, after 19 seconds, Jack Hughes found a way to score a goal at 14:51. Hughes’ powerful wrist shot, supported by Bratt and Siegenthaler, put the Devils in a situation of a lead.

In the end, Hughes scored another goal into an empty net when 31 seconds were left in the game. It was his 2nd goal of the game and 22nd overall this season.

Chicago appeared to be in control for much of the game and entered the third period with a narrow lead.

However, New Jersey refused to back down and turned the game as the clock ticked down in the final period.

Chicago Started Well, but the New Jersey Devils Held Their Composure

The Devils were pushed by the Chicago throughout the game. Ilya Mikheyev from Chicago started the proceedings with a goal at 04:19 in the 1st period. Connor Brown scored an equalizer at 11:15.

The two teams continue to exchange goals as Frank Nazar puts Chicago in the lead again at 13:11. Simon Nemec tied the score in the 2nd period, but Frank continued the good work for Chicago and scored his 2nd goal at 10:51 in the 3rd period.

Then comes that magical 19-second period where the Devils went past Chicago. Apart from two goals, Jack Hughes had two assists as well in the game.

The other stars of the game for the Devils are Dawson Mercer (1 assist), Nico Hischier (2 assists), Timo Meier (1 assist), and Jesper Bratt (1 assist). Jonas Siegenthaler, Luke Hughes, and Johnathan Kovacevic also had one assist each.

This dramatic win provided a major confidence boost for the Devils as they push toward the postseason. On the other hand, the loss served as a tough reminder for the Blackhawks about the importance of maintaining focus until the final whistle.

The 19-second burst will likely be remembered as one of the most thrilling moments of the team’s season. The NJ Devils are at No. 7 in the Wild Card standings with 78 points. They will now meet the New York Rangers on March 31, 2026.
