Macklin Celebrini is keeping his contract options open after a record-breaking 115-point season with the San Jose Sharks. The 19-year-old superstar addressed his future on Monday following the conclusion of the team's campaign. While expressing commitment to San Jose, Celebrini confirmed he has not yet entered formal contract negotiations.
"The season just ended, and I haven't really thought about anything like that," Celebrini said. "I'm just open to whatever happens. There's a lot of stuff that goes into it."
Celebrini signed a 3-year entry-level contract in 2024 with the San Jose Sharks at a value of $2.925 million. So the next season will be his last with the Sharks, unless he signs an extension.
If not, he will become a restricted free agent. But he has a chance to sign an extension on July 01, 2026. The new NHL agreement will start before next season.
Players can still sign 8-year contracts with their current teams now. But after September 18 (after a new agreement applies), teams can offer only 7-year contracts.
Macklin Celebrini continuously stressed being open to all options. The rising star also said he wants to stay committed to the San Jose Sharks because he enjoys playing there and loves the team environment.
"I'm just open to every possibility. There's nothing really that goes into it. It goes hand in hand with me. I want to commit to this team and be here. I love it here."
This season, Celebrini recorded 115 points, including 45 goals and 70 assists. He was the highest point scorer for the team this season.
Macklin Celebrini Talked To His Friend About His Contract Situation
Macklin Celebrini also spoke to his friend Connor Bedard, Chicago Blackhawks center, about contract talks. He noted that each player handles negotiations differently based on their own situation.
"Connor and I are pretty good friends," Celebrini said. "I talked to him a little bit just about his situation. He approached it differently, and every guy's situation is going to be a little bit different."
Although he is committed to San Jose, he did not think of the length of his new contract. As per the NHL agent, he might receive a $20 million AAV deal in the future. And that is because of his outstanding performance in the NHL 2025-26 season.
Celebrini becomes the 6th teenager to score 100 points in a season. He is the third youngest player to score 100 points. At the age of 19 years and 115 days, he achieved this milestone.
Overall, he has played two seasons with the Sharks and recorded 178 points in 152 games. Coming to his team’s performance, the team has shown improvement over the last year.
Although the Sharks did not make it to the playoffs for the 7th straight year, they have won 36 games and finished with 86 points this season. Last season, they only managed to win 20 games and ended with 52 points.
Celebrini’s strong performance will further strengthen his case as far as his contract is concerned. Other franchises will surely approach him off-season.
The Sharks also wanted their young star to stay with them. Earlier, the team’s General Manager, Mike Grier, also showed interest in signing an extension with Macklin Celebrini.
By staying open to every possibility, he is giving himself and the organization time to make the best long-term decision—one that could define the next era of hockey in San Jose.
