The Florida Panthers had to take a serious step on July 18, 2026, following the arrest of an organizational figure.
The team suspended its equipment manager, Teddy Richards, after he was taken into custody on Friday in Coral Springs. On the same day, the Panthers issued a statement on social media acknowledging Richards' actions.
“The Florida Panthers organization has been made aware of an incident involving the arrest of Equipment Manager Teddy Richards,” the statement read. “Effective immediately, he will be suspended from all team activities and facilities pending investigation.”

According to the CSPD arrest records, Richards was charged with domestic battery/violence and misuse of 911 services. However, these details of the arrest report weren't available immediately on Friday, according to Coral Springs Talk writer Ryan Yousefi.
As per Florida Panthers beat writer David Dwork from The Hockey News, Richards spent Friday evening at the Broward Main Jail in Fort Lauderdale. Dwork reported Richards would likely appear before a Broward County bond court judge this weekend.
Although the Panthers took immediate action, this incident might disrupt the organization's flow after their pretty disappointing season.
What Happens Next for the Panthers
After consecutive Stanley Cup victories in 2024 and 2025, the Panthers missed the postseason this year for the first time since the 2018-19 season. Key players like Aleksander Barkov and Matthew Tkachuk’s injury absences led to a 40-38-4, 7th finish in the Atlantic Division, per Hockey Reference.
Although Richards is suspended “pending investigation,” this still disrupts the comprehensive management, maintenance, and logistics of all team performances. Going into the season without an instant replacement will be damaging to game-day readiness.
Moreover, before joining the Panthers in the 2016-17 season, Richards worked with the Pittsburgh Penguins for 3 years. He also served as the equipment manager for Team USA at the 4 Nations Face-Off in 2025, the Milano Cortina Olympics and the U.S. at the 2026 IIHF Men’s World Championship in Switzerland.
So, this incident also raises some questions about the organization’s internal culture.
