Panthers’ unconventional schedule release draws praise from ESPN’s Greg Wyshynski

The Florida Panthers have come up with an unconventional way to release their schedule for the 2026-27 season. Following the unorthodox release, the team has received praise from veteran ESPN journalist Greg Wyshynski.

The NHL has released the entire schedule for its next season, commencing on September 29, and the Panthers have thought of a strange way to announce their schedule on X. Wyshynski has responded to this via an X tweet.

"Releasing your entire 2026-27 schedule in a series of one-game-per-tweet messages is absolutely wicked," Wyshynski wrote on July 16. "And I’d expect nothing else from Brad Marchand’s team."

Brad Marchand built his NHL reputation as one of hockey's greatest agitators, someone who annoys opponents and embraces controversy. After spending the first 16 years of his NHL career with the Boston Bruins, Marchand was traded to Florida in March 2025. The analyst joked that the schedule announcement reflected the kind of playful trolling Marchand is known for, even though he likely had no role in planning it.

The Panthers have released the schedule, tweeting for each of the 84 games they will play in the regular season as one game per tweet, prompting Wyshynski to tweet. The NHL has expanded the regular-season schedule from 82 to 84 games this year.

But that's not all, the Panthers have also released the schedule in the form of a video, stating, "The Florida Panthers 2026-2027 Schedule released in the slowest schedule reveal of all time!" The video is eight hours, one minute, and 27 seconds long.

This season will begin with a tripleheader on ESPN in the USA and a doubleheader on Sportsnet in Canada on the opening day. The Panthers will be part of the opening day as well, playing against the defending champions, the Carolina Hurricanes, who will raise their Stanley Cup banner against them.

The Panthers went on to play three consecutive Stanley Cup Final games, winning back-to-back trophies in 2023-2024 and 2024-2025. But they lost against the Carolina Hurricanes this past season, making this opener even more intense.

Let us dive into some more games that the Panthers will play this year.

The Florida Panthers’ season ahead of the new 2026-27 schedule for the NHL

Florida opens the 2026-27 regular season away from home, taking on the reigning Stanley Cup champion Hurricanes on Sept. 29 before continuing its four-game road trip against the Sharks (Oct. 1), Ducks (Oct. 4), and Kings (Oct. 6), according to NHL.com.

The Panthers will then play their first home game on October 10 against the Minnesota Wild at 6 p.m. ET. Additionally, the Panthers will feature in the league's first European primetime game against the Buffalo Sabres.

The European primetime games will stream on Monday at 1 p.m. ET and have been included to make it more convenient for international fans to watch their favorite NHL stars.

The Panthers will also host three matinee games this season, against the Calgary Flames on December 19, the Montreal Canadiens on January 2, and the New York Islanders on February 1.

The Panthers' schedule looks packed, and with their unusual way of announcing it, it has made it even more exciting.
