Radko Gudas discussed the expectations for the Anaheim Ducks vs. Toronto Maple Leafs rematch. He was anticipating the counterattack from the Leafs, and that’s exactly what happened in the game.
When asked whether he was expecting fireworks in the game against the Toronto Maple Leafs, Radko Gudas said yes. He added that it was going to be an intense game, and that was exactly why he wanted to play in this matchup.
“Yeah, I think it is going to be an intense game. One of the reasons why I wanted to play. You know, address things.”
Gudas also said that he wanted to address his mistakes himself, and he did not want the rest of his teammates to suffer the consequences or face retaliation because of his actions.
“Exactly, that’s another thing. You know, stand behind my own mistakes, you know. I want to address myself, so that’s one of the reasons 100%. And one of those games where I might have to play,” Gudas said.
Although he was not fully healthy, Gudas said he is good to go in the game. “Good to play,” Gudas said about his health.
Radko Gudas's Hit That Ended Auston Matthews’ Season
Earlier, Radko Gudas hit the Leafs’ captain, Auston Matthews, knee-on-knee on March 12, 2026. As a result of the collision, Auston sustained a Grade 3 MCL tear that ended his season on the spot.
Gudas faced a ban for five games. It was his fifth suspension in his NHL career. He is well-known for his physical style of play.
He already had two fights in the season before coming into this game. In the first two seasons, Gudas was involved in 25 fights overall.
That’s why he was ready to take on whatever was coming his way from the Leafs.
Now, on Monday (March 30, 2026), the two teams again faced off. And it was the Leafs’ time to take revenge for their captain. Just a few seconds into the game, the Leafs’ forward Max Domi took off his gloves and started hitting Gudas.
Gudas faced the consequence of his action. But by facing the Maple Leafs head-on and adjusting his approach, he demonstrated accountability and professionalism.
Radko Gudas appeared to learn from that mistake and approached the rematch with a more cautious mindset.
Radko Gudas showed through his statement that he had learned from the incident and was remorseful for his actions.
By openly acknowledging responsibility, he signaled maturity, accountability, and a willingness to face consequences rather than let his teammates bear the burden.
