The Pittsburgh Penguins refused to go down quietly as veteran stars Sidney Crosby and Kris Letang produced a vintage performance. A 4-2 win over the Philadelphia Flyers keeps the series still alive.
The Pittsburgh Penguins were on the verge of elimination in Game 4 against the Philadelphia Flyers after falling 3-0 behind. Sidney Crosby and Kris Letang led the comeback, saving them from a 4-0 sweep.
Things started going well for the Pittsburgh Penguins when Sidney Crosby scored a power-play goal in the first period with help from Erik Karlsson. Rickard Rakell added another in the second period for an early lead.
Denver Barkey scored for the Philadelphia Flyers, but Kris Letang responded to keep the Penguins in control. Crosby also helped by screening and setting up Letang’s goal. Letang praised Crosby for his smart decision-making and his hockey IQ.
“It was an amazing play and just shows you how much IQ he has on the ice and how he knows what to do every moment in every situation," said Letang.
The Flyers tried to stay in the game, with Travis Konecny scoring the 2nd goal for the team at 07:03 in the third period. But Connor Dewar’s empty-net goal in the end sealed a victory for the Penguins.
After a win, Crosby said the Game 4 win was just one victory, but it gave the Pittsburgh Penguins renewed hope and reflected their true style of play.
"It's only one, but it gives us some life, and I think that looked more like our game," said Crosby.
This win shows how important experienced players are in a team. When the team is under pressure in a crucial game, these players not only deliver but also keep the team calm and composed.
What the Pittsburgh Penguins Did Right in Game 4 to Stay Alive?
In the first three games, the Flyers, with their physical game, got the better of the Pittsburgh Penguins. The Penguins adapted the same style in Game 4, and the results were positive. The tight checking and improved play in the neutral zone also helped them secure a victory and keep the series alive.
The credit must also go to the goaltending. And the coach also played a big role. He made a goalie change, and Arturs Silovs started the game and made 28 saves.
The decision gives stability to the team. Crosby praised the goalie for staying calm under pressure and making crucial saves that stopped the Flyers from gaining momentum.
"Tonight, with the situation we were in, in a loud building like this, I thought he was really poised," Crosby said. "He made some big saves for us when they pushed and could have gotten a lot of momentum."
The Penguins' coach, Dan Muse, credited the strong leadership of Sidney Crosby and the team’s focused yet relaxed practice a day earlier for setting the foundation that helped the Pittsburgh Penguins secure their Game 4 victory.
"I thought they competed really hard (Friday) and they were focused, but they also weren't too tight," Muse said. "The credit falls to the leadership in the locker room to make sure that's there. That's a credit to Sid and the leaders. Today started yesterday."
With the series now alive, Pittsburgh will need to build on this momentum. But one thing is clear. As long as Sidney Crosby and Kris Letang are performing at this level, the Penguins cannot be counted out. The next game will be played on April 27, 2026.
