Team Canada delivered a commanding performance against Italy in their IIHF World Championship clash. But during the game, attention briefly moved away from the score when veteran Sidney Crosby had a heated on-ice argument with the referees.

From the start of the game, Team Canada controlled the play with strong puck possession, fast transitions, and constant attack. Italy had a hard time stopping them and spent most of the game defending in their own zone.

Even though Canada dominated, the game had an emotional feel as penalty calls started getting more attention. Midway through the game, Sidney Crosby argued with the referee about what he felt were unfair and inconsistent penalty calls.

The Penguins captain, usually calm and composed, showed clear frustration while questioning the timing and fairness of the decisions. The situation did not go beyond a verbal exchange, but it became one of the most discussed moments of the match.

Crosby felt the penalty calls were not fair. He thought the referees were calling too many penalties against Canada. The veteran forward was heard on the referee’s mic saying that Canada had a big advantage in shots on goal, but still ended up getting more penalties than Italy.

Crosby also said that Canadian players were playing fairly and not trying to exaggerate contact to fool the officials.

As per a report by TOI, the referee listened to Crosby’s concerns and also appreciated how hard Team Canada was playing in the physical battle. 

Sidney Crosby: Not the Captain, But Still the Leader on Ice

This confrontation moment also showed Crosby’s strong leadership in the Canadian team. Even though he does not wear the captain’s “C,” he still leads and guides Team Canada in major international tournaments.

Young star Macklin Celebrini has also benefited from Crosby’s experience and leadership during the tournament. Whenever he feels confused or unsure in pressure situations, they have a player like Sidney Crosby, who has a lot of experience. He knows exactly what to do and how to handle these moments.

Crosby helped set up Celebrini’s second goal with a pass after returning from the Stanley Cup playoffs. Dylan Holloway, Fraser Minten, Evan Bouchard, and Ryan O’Reilly also scored goals for Canada. Cam Talbot stopped all 19 shots to secure a shutout win.

Team Canada won the game convincingly by 6-0. Later, they also defeated Denmark in the third game of the tournament. Now, they will play Norway in their next fixture.
