Stars Bounce Back as Wyatt Johnston Shines to Level Series vs Wild in Game 2

The Dallas Stars delivered a strong response in Game 2 of their first-round playoff series after getting hammered by the Minnesota Wild in Game 1. Wyatt Johnston scored twice to lead the Dallas Stars past the Minnesota Wild 4-2 on Tuesday.

The victory levels the first-round series at one game apiece following a lopsided Game 1 loss. Dallas now heads to Minnesota with momentum on their side.

The Dallas Star started the proceedings with Wyatt Johnston scoring the first goal of the match at 08:58 in the first period. In less than three minutes, Brock Faber scored an equalizer for the Wild.

Then came the turning point of the match when Matt Duchene scored a power-play goal at 04:02 in the second period. The momentum shifted towards the Stars, and from there on, they started to control the game.

In the third period, Jason Robertson scored another goal for the Stars at 07:09. Faber scored another goal for the Wild, but his effort went in vain. In the end, Wyatt Johnston scored an empty-net goal to secure a 4-2 victory for the Stars.

Johnston and Duchene were the heroes for the Dallas Stars, along with the goalie Jake Oettinger, who made 28 saves.

The Wild’s goalie Jesper Wallstedt also did well for the team, but they were behind in the overall scoring. An injury to Mats Zuccarello and Yakov Trenin, leaving early in the game, affected the Wild’s performance.

Dallas Stars Players React After Strong Game 2 Response

Players from the Dallas Stars expressed confidence and relief after bouncing back with a crucial Game 2 win to level the series. Jake Oettinger praised the Dallas Stars for strong defence, effective special teams, and momentum built in the final 40 minutes.

“The way we played the last 40 minutes of the game, I think, didn’t give up much, had a ton of good chances offensively. The power play, we got looks, and our (penalty kill) was great. If we kind of build off the game that we played the last 40 minutes, I think we should feel very good for the next few games.” he said.

Wyatt Johnston also praised goalie Jake Oettinger, crediting his key saves and leadership in helping the Stars secure an important win.

“(Oettinger)’s an unbelievable goalie, and he was awesome tonight and made so many huge saves. I think it was obviously a big win for the team, and obviously, it was great to help try to get him the win," Johnston said.

There were reactions from the Wild’s players as well. Brock Faber acknowledged the strength of the Dallas Stars, saying the Minnesota Wild must stay mentally tougher for the rest of the playoff series.

“They’re a good hockey team, right? It’s going to be a battle of a series, and we knew that coming in. We knew that they were going to respond to this game,” Faber said. “I think we’re the tougher team. I think we have to be tougher mentally.

The Stars lost Game 1 by 6-1. Now that the Dallas Stars have won Game 2, the series has become even more interesting. The next game will be played at the home arena of the Minnesota Wild on April 22, 2026.

It will be exciting to see which team comes out on top in that matchup. What are your thoughts on this?
