A year after former Toronto Maple Leafs star Mitch Marner’s settlement in Vegas, finally came the long-awaited admission of his agent, Darren Ferris, shedding light on the speculations and rumors.
“The rumors that he always wanted to go there are not true,” Ferris said in his recent appearance on The PuckPedia Hockey Show podcast. “Everyone said, ‘Oh, they were shopping for a house in Vegas.’ Well, that’s not true. When guys are in different towns, they look around.”
Last year, Marner’s sign-and-trade deal with the Vegas Golden Knights after 9 seasons in Toronto sparked immediate questions about whether the right wing decided to join the Golden Knights beforehand, or if there had been tampering involved.

To top that, many also reported that Marner was house-hunting in Vegas before the 2025 NHL offseason. While Ferris admitted the claim, he mentioned it as people are “always looking at different places they go to.” However, for the tampering claims, he had a firmer answer.
“Someone else put out something about there being tampering,” the agent added to the same segment. “There was no tampering whatsoever that everyone kept putting on social media.”
Moreover, these rumors don't really matter much, given how well Marner has settled in Vegas.
Darren Ferris Revealed How the Organization Won Over Mitch Marner
On the ice, the trade looked fruitful enough for the Golden Knights and Marner. The team reached the Stanley Cup Finals in the 2025-26 season. Although the Carolina Hurricanes won the best-of-seven series 4–2, Marner managed to post 24 goals and 80 points.
It’ll be time-telling how the 29-year-old’s eight-year, $96 million deal with Vegas comes through. But Ferris affirmed that the organization has been nothing but supportive of the star and his family. This immediately helped Marner focus on his game.
“Vegas does a great job. Kelly McCrimmon, George McPhee, quality people,” he added to the same segment. “They’ve been nothing but aces. They’ve treated Mitch and his family very well, protected them whenever misinformation was in the public.”
“He’s really enjoying it there,” Ferris added further. “He’s got a clear mind. He’s able to focus on hockey.”
Ferris’ remarks might’ve come late, but there are always two sides to a puck.
