A veteran forward for the Carolina Hurricanes has shared a moment of "chills" after the Hurricanes won the Stanley Cup and he became one of the team's players whose names were added to the Stanley Cup as well.
NHL star Nicolas Deslauriers has spoken up about how general manager Eric Tulsky revealed to him that his name was going to get engraved on the Stanley Cup. Deputy managing editor of the NHL website, Adam Kimelman, wrote about his chilling moment.
"I got a call, I think, on the day before the (championship celebration) parade talking about what I did for the organization," Deslauriers said. "It was a long, 15-minute talk with me and Tulsky, and then he said that they petitioned for my name and that it was actually not hard and asked me how I wanted to write it on. Still thinking about it gives me chills."
Deslauriers couldn't believe that his name would be on the Stanley Cup. According to the NHL, players must play either 41 regular-season games or one Stanley Cup game for their names to be on the Cup.
Although Deslauriers played only seven games in the regular-season, he played Game 4 against the Ottawa Senators in the Eastern Conference First Round.
"Just thinking about all this run, I was only able to play one game," he continued. "But when you get the staff and the owner talking to you about that game, Game 4 against Ottawa, it kind of makes you feel special."
But how did Deslauriers get his name on the Cup, and what more did Deslauriers say about the honor given to him?

Deslauriers was able to get his name engraved under a stipulation in the NHL's Official Rules that allows a team to petition the Commissioner for permission to add a player's name to the Cup. But that wasn't all, as Deslauriers also bought a home in North Wildwood.
"We started coming down here quite a bit with the kids (Payton, Madison, Jaxon, Colton), and got kind of really in love with it," he said, as per the NHL.com "Been looking for three years to buy a place, and … was able to settle on the house two weeks after winning the Cup. Kind of made it a special place."
The North Wildwood Mayor Salvatore Zampirri also declared July 17 as Nicolas Deslauriers Day in the city. This wasn't the first time Deslauriers played in the playoffs though.
He played five games with the Minnesota Wild back in the 2021-22 season, in the Western Conference First Round. The Wild lost the series 4-2.
Now that he has finally won a Stanley Cup, the highest honor in the league, Deslauriers believes it is "special."
"It's just so special to have your name on it," he said. "And just looking at how many are there, it seems like a lot when you look at it, but there's a lot of NHL players that don't have the chance to have it, and I'm fortunate enough."
It was truly an honorable moment for Deslauriers to have his name engraved on the Stanley Cup by Tulsky. He also signed a 2-year, $1.75 million contract extension with the Hurricanes on June 20, hoping to create more such moments.
