Winless Kings Look for Their Missing Offence to Spark a Turnaround

LOS ANGELES - There's plenty the Los Angeles Kings could address as they look to escape a winless start to the 2026-27 NHL season. But there's one glaring issue above all the rest: find some goals.

The Kings (0-4-2) have scored exactly one goal apiece in their last four games. Sure, they can point to some bad bounces in a couple of those losses, but that excuse runs pretty thin after collapsing on Saturday against the Boston Bruins. Though Los Angeles dominated early and took a 1-0 lead into the second frame, they surrendered four unanswered goals to the Bruins, ultimate falling 4-1.

It marked the fourth time in six games that the Kings have been burned by giving up four or more goals. But the culprit in all four of those losses? Scoring only a single goal themselves.

Stability in net could be an area of emphasis in the near-term, as head coach Peter Laviolette opted to give the job to Anton Forsberg Saturday, but Forsberg has been pretty solid himself, including saving 24 of Boston's 26 shots Saturday.

It's clear the Kings can't keep outpunching teams in the shot department and expect to win. Los Angeles outshot Edmonton 40-16 in last week's 4-1 loss at the Oilers. Dominating in other areas is nice, but LA can't afford to do that if it's only putting one in back of the net itself.

It's no shock the Kings would take a step backwards after injuries to key playmakers on the offensive side, namely Kevin Fiala and Mats Zuccarello (and Alex Turcotte, as well). Getting playmakers like Fiala back in the lineup will certainly help, but LA simply cannot afford to sit around waiting for their return.Somebody has to step up and put the pucks in the back of the net.

Right now, Los Angeles is the last remaining winless team in the league. And unless they start scoring at a much higher rate, that could stay that way for a long, long time. The Kings season could very well hinge on whether or not it finds a way to elevate its offence. If it can't, well, good luck with that.
